If you know what you are doing its a great method, but the amount of times I've seen it used poorly exceeds the amount of times I've seen it used well.

I can't say i disagree. The thing is that if you put in enough time to do some testing you can get good at it, and quite fast. But then at the same time you will have to learn how to deal with some of the issues of smooth overlap and odd angle smoothing issues.

It's a given that you will need to have quite a bit of practice before you can use this in your workflow, but once you get in the mind set it becomes a second nature. I'll see if i can make a few videos in the future where i will use the technique

Hey mate! good stuff as usual!
it's a good technique, and it's superfast if you know what you are doing. Also with that shortcut for setting smoothing groups. I'll probably try to model my stuff like this next time.

What do you think about using the crease sets?
You'll end up having a value of "sharpness" per each edge group you select, and you can easily go back and forth modifying them with a spinner. I have used it to model some detailed furniture models, and when i have realized that some corners were not sharp enough i just had to go back and adjust the spinner related to that corner.

Both these techniques seem to behave nicely with the overall look of the mesh, the only thing is that sometimes i don't like how some edge loops form around the corners.

As i said in the video this is an awesome technique to use when you are gunning for rapid prototyping modeling where things can change in the design of your model. As for using the crease set that is the opensubdiv workflow and it's a valid one as well.

The way i see it is that all the workflows are valid, it is only up to you to decide which one would suit you best when modeling individual models

Hi Denis, I saw your several tutorials, all are amazing. Thank you for that. I was wondering if I could see some tutorials on how to analyze a product before start modeling it, I mean how to visualize, break up, figure out starting point keeping in view the different parts of the same product that we are going the right way. There should be a reference image and we do modeling looking at it. Please advise me. Thanks again. Appreciated!

Not really in the habit of saying one is better then the other, the way i see it there are two types of teachers, good ones and bad ones. I think that Arrimus3d is a good one and if you say i'm a good one as well i can accept that 🙂
